SIM CFL's June Chapter Meeting!
Though the adoption of new technologies in the automotive industry is often turbulent, real progress is being made toward advanced vehicle safety and autonomy. Join us for an engaging update from Matt Weed on the state of automotive sensing — including lidar — and why the idea of a zero road‑fatality future is not just aspirational.
Featured Speaker:
Matt Weed spent 11 years at Luminar, leading automotive lidar development from concept through production — culminating in the first global consumer vehicle to ship with lidar as standard equipment. His work spanned R&D, customer success, and product management.
He is an active contributor to the photonics community, serving on the Board of the Florida Photonics Cluster and previously holding leadership roles with Optica, the National Photonics Initiative, and CREOL.
Matt earned his PhD in photonic device integration from CREOL at UCF and a B.S. in Physics from RPI. He holds 40 U.S. patents in laser, lidar, and sensing technologies.
